2010 Community Grants Levels Remain Unchanged |
|
The Longmont Community Foundation’s board announced today that it has decided to keep 2010 funding for its Community Grants programs at the same level as the last two years. The Longmont Community Foundation has seem growth in its investments this year but "Because of these difficult times for every sector of the economy, especially for the non-profit sector, the Board voted unanimously to support our local not-for-profits at the same level as the past two years," said Longmont Community Foundation Board Chair Van Stow.
This year the Foundation witnessed a 34% increase in the number of grant requests through its Community Grants Program. The increased demand for funding from the Community Grants program combined with the need to address pressing issues in our community, necessitates the desire by The Longmont Community Foundation leaders to grow the foundation’s ability to provide assistance to nonprofits, now and for the future. In October of 2009 the board launched the Founders' Challenge -- an aggressive effort to double The Foundation's assets – providing the ability to fund more requests in Longmont and the St. Vrain Valley. "We need a broader base of support from the Longmont community to increase our distributions to the dozens and dozens of needs described in requests for grants this year, said Stow.
Grant distributions from this year’s Community Grants program will occur at the foundation’s annual Grants Celebration Breakfast on April 9, 2010.
