Scholarships & Awards

The Longmont Community Foundation currently offers four scholarship programs and one award for community service.  Please scroll down to view program descriptions.  Applications are posted in January of each year.  If you have questions about any of the scholarship programs below, contact The Longmont Community Foundation at 303-678-6555.  Click on the name of the scholarship you are interested in to download the full application form.

 

American Association of University Women (AAUW) Longmont Branch Scholarship

This scholarship was established by AAUW to provide scholarships to encourage women to pursue higher education in order to increase their ability to have a positive impact in their field and community, including women returning to school to update their knowledge/skills. 

 
At least one student will be selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to a woman who meets all of the following: has completed a minimum of 30 college credit hours at the time of application; is currently working towards an undergraduate degree, graduate degree, or certificate at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States (full-time or part-time); is pursuing a career that promotes equity for women and girls, education, health, and or positive societal change; has a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0; has either graduated from a St. Vrain Valley School District high school or is a current resident of the St. Vrain Valley School District. 

 

The 2011 recipients of the AAUW Longmont Branch Scholarship are Kaitlin Hellwig attending Colorado State University, Kathryn Nikkel attending the University of Northern Colorado,  and Ansley Elwood attending the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.  
 

Madeline Marie Molzahn Sherrod Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Dale Sherrod and his children in memory of Madeline, his wife and their mother. Student's are selected based on their financial need, academic achievement, church, school, and community involvement, and the strength of their personal statement and letter of recommendation.  One student is selected each year to receive this $1,500 scholarship.  This is a renewable scholarship for $1,500 for up to three additional years.

The 2011 recipient of the Madeline Marie Molzahn Sherrod Memorial Scholarship is Torri Demos of Erie High School.  Torri will be attending the Colorado State University in the fall.

 
Catherine C. Owen Scholarship

The scholarship is in memory of Catherine C. Owen of Mead. It is awarded to one St. Vrain Valley high school senior that will be attending the University of Northern Colorado or a Christian college.  Selection is based upon the student's essay, academic performance, financial need, letters of recommendation, and achievements in school and in the larger community.  This one time scholarship is for $1000.

The 2011 recipient of the Catherine C. Owen Scholarship is Joshua Powner of Frederick High School.  Joshua will be attending the University of Northern Colorado in the fall.

 

The Philip McClelland Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Philip McClelland by his family and friends. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded for a 2011 graduate of the St. Vrain Valley School District or Berthoud High School who has experienced the serious illness or death of a family member, has demonstrated  financial need and will be attending an accredited two or four year college.  Students who have experienced a very serious illness or injury themselves are also encouraged to apply.

The 2011 recipient of the Philip McClelland Scholarship is Emma Janssen of Skyline High School.  Emma will be attending the University of Utah in the fall.

 

St. Vrain Valley Community Service Award

The St. Vrain Valley Community Service Award is open to all graduating high school seniors from the St. Vrain Valley School District who have completed at least 75 hours of community service for the year and exemplify a commitment of service to the community.  Awards are $500 each.

 

There were 6 Community Service Awards given in 2011.  The award recipients were:

  • Natalie Boldt of Skyline High School who performed 196 volunteer hours
  • Molly Finnegan of Skyline High School who performed 400 volunteer hours
  • Sheila Maher of Longmont High School who performed 104 volunteer hours
  • Jonathan Sell of Erie High School who performed 354 volunteer hours
  • Rachel Slauson of Lyons High School who performed 186 volunteer hours
  • Rachel Van Court of Niwot High School who performed 160.5 volunteer hours
